The Computer Augmented Military English Language Training & Technology (CAMEL-T&T) has been launched for piloting as a dedicated project of the NATO DEEP eAcademy, designed to empower DEEP Partner Nations with an open-source tool for specialized military English training and assessment. Leveraging Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) technologies, CAMEL-T&T enhances the training experience with digital tools and interactive learning methods.

It is a collaborative effort involving military English specialists from Armenia, Georgia, Mauritania, Poland, and Ukraine, bringing extensive expertise in English for Specific Purposes, particularly Military English. The programme ensures high-quality, relevant training and assessment, aligned with the operational needs of military personnel.

The platform provides a dynamic training environment, enabling individuals to develop effective communication skills for military contexts. It serves as a practical aid for personnel undergoing military English training, offering realistic scenarios that mirror real-world operational communication. CAMEL-T&T includes a comprehensive set of listening and reading training items, tailored to different proficiency levels, ensuring adaptability to the learning needs of military personnel.

The primary goal of CAMEL-T&T is to enhance language proficiency training and assessment capabilities for NATO DEEP countries. By using a computer-augmented approach, the programme promotes active, adaptive learning that prepares participants for effective communication in military settings.

In September 2025, CAMEL-T&T was piloted in residential sessions at the Language Center of the Military Academy named after V. Sargsyan, Yerevan, with twelve foreign language instructors and forty three Professional Military Education (PME) participants from the Armenian Army.

During the sessions, participants explored the platform’s structure, practiced with sample tasks, and discussed the applicability of CAMEL-T&T for teaching, training, and assessment. The programme team also gathered valuable user feedback to further enhance the reliability and effectiveness of the platform.

Based on the experiences gathered during the CAMEL-T&T project stages, a new NATO DEEP eAcademy initiative has been created – the MED CAMEL, focusing on English military medical terminology.
