The customization process of the Iraqi e-Learning Portal (IeLP) is completed. It means that the interface in Arabic is fully available and operational. This unique solution was introduced, as the result of the coordination process conducted jointly by the NMI and NATO DEEP eAcademy experts. The point is, that LMS ILIAS does not fully support the Arabic version and when switching to this language (Right to Left Language – RTL), it mirrors the entire platform. On the other hand – using the Arabic version only is not a problem but maintaining/ operating the multilingual LMS ILIAS option is demanding and requires the implementation of dedicated solutions. Firstly – separate the Arabic and English versions from each other on the platform. As a result, two autonomous areas are kept. Secondly – create and attribute dedicated roles and authorization groups for users using different language versions. Thirdly – prepare mirror images for graphics in the Arabic version. Fourthly – create a separate login screen for the Arabic version. Since the standard language package within LMS ILIAS offers only about 50% of translated phrases in Arabic, during the customization process, the remaining language portion was also translated.
