From 24–27 March, DEEP eAcademy hosted an online workshop for the faculty of the Police Academy in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The training focused on introducing participants to the core principles of Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) and the foundational use of the ILIAS Learning Management System (LMS) for both asynchronous and blended learning environments.
A total of 24 academic and administrative staff members participated in the workshop. Over four days, participants developed practical skills in preparing courses within the ILIAS platform, distinguishing between synchronous and asynchronous teaching formats, building learning modules, and integrating assessments. The training also introduced pedagogical models such as SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) and TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge), guiding how technology can be used purposefully in educational settings.
The workshop fostered strong engagement, with participants actively exploring the features of the LMS ILIAS and contributing to discussions about eLearning’s potential in the Police Academy’s curriculum. There was clear interest in continuing professional development, particularly in advanced content creation and platform administration.
Following the training, a set of follow-up courses was recommended to further support the Police Academy’s digital transition. These include advanced ILIAS and content creation courses, sessions on academic design for online learning, and training on virtual teaching tools such as Canva and BBB. These initiatives are designed to build a sustainable eLearning infrastructure and enhance the Police Academy’s long-term digital education capabilities.
