The first version of the NATO DEEP eAcademy chatbot, nicknamed as JEAN, was successfully launched. The solution is currently operating within the NATO DEEP Portal as a widget while serving as technical and substantive support. This achievement was possible due to the fact that the project team had successfully created and trained JEAN, focusing on the essential information about the DEEP Portal platform (LMS ILIAS) and also introducing basic knowledge related to instructional design. The preliminary efforts of the project team were also focused on the comprehensive analysis of existing AI solutions in the market. This in-depth study allowed the project team to identify gaps and opportunities. The priority was given to launching an indigenous prototype version, which was followed by the introduction of the training data and, ultimately, the training of the chatbot using the previously prepared data. This strategic approach ensured that JEAN is currently not only functional but also highly aligned with the specific environment of the DEEP Portal. The focus on data-driven development and training solidified the chatbot’s role as a valuable asset for technical and substantive support.
It is assumed that JEAN will be able to provide unique performance and deliver efficiency, as well as be able to process large amounts of data in a short time. JEAN should allow to gather experience in the field of artificial intelligence and will enable NATO DEEP eAcademy to develop innovative solutions/ tangible products that can be used in accordance with the requests formulated by the NATO DEEP partners.
