Faculty Development Collaborative Workshop in İstanbul

National Defence University of Türkiye (TR-NDU) and Faculty Development Group (FDG) of NATO’s Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP) jointly organized a workshop in İstanbul during the week of 23-27 September 2024. The DEEP FDG Co-Leader (Ret)LTC John Oscar HAGEN Jr (USAF) and FDG member (Ret) LTC Liudas GUMBINAS (LTU-A) facilitated the Faculty Development Workshop. The 14 TR-NDU instructors working in different academic units of the TR-NDU have found the opportunity to discuss a wide range of topics through experience sharing and group work during this 5-day-long activity. The key subjects covered were:

  • Professional Military Education,
  • DEEP Faculty Development Programs,
  • Basic Principles in Modern Teaching,
  • Critical Thinking Skills,
  • Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation,
  • Committed Learning,
  • Student, Instructor, Material, Time&Space Correlation,
  • The Effects of Culture on Education,
  • Characteristics of Adult Teaching and Comparison of Pedagogy and Andragogy,
  • The Role of Technology in Teaching (AI, Social Media, E-Learning etc.)
  • Effective Usage of Technology,
  • Learning Organization Concept,
  • Teacher-Student Centered Teaching

The TR-NDU and DEEP FDG members also discussed possible collaboration areas on which TR-NDU can contribute to DEEP activities. Upon completing this successful workshop, the facilitators were given certificates of appreciation and TR-NDU participants were given certificates of participation by the TR-NDU Vice-Rector.
