The Annual Training and Education Conference (ATEC), organized by the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), was held on November 18–19, 2024, in Brussels at the Albert Borschette Congress Center. This annual event focuses on emerging and cross-cutting issues within Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) training and education. ATEC serves as a platform for discussions on recent developments and emerging policies in CSDP, enhancing regional civilian and military coordination, and promoting the pooling and sharing of resources.

For the first time, a representative from the NATO DEEP eAcademy participated in this ESDC event, highlighting the growing collaboration between the two institutions. Earlier in October 2024, Mr. Fergal O’Regan delivered an inaugural lecture as part of the NATO DEEP eAcademy Online Teaching Fundamentals Course (OTFC). The lecture is available as an authorized version here.

Ms. Magdalena Stabla, a Senior Instructional Designer from NATO DEEP eAcademy, contributed as a panellist in the third conference session. This session, “The Nexus of Innovation: AI and Emerging Technologies Reshaping EU Security and Defence Training and Education” explored the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. Her presentation showcased NATO DEEP’s approach and solutions involving AI in training and education. The panel addressed how these technologies enhance security and defence-related education within the EU framework and the potential risks they entail.
