Privacy policy
Your data will only be stored on your smartphone and your institution’s ILIAS server. As the publisher of the app, we have no access to your data, do not store it, and do not pass it on to third parties.
When you use the app, data is collected and processed as follows:
What data do we collect?
- The URL and name of the ILIAS installation(s) you use via the app. (Information is stored exclusively on your device)
- Username and a token. (Information is stored exclusively on your device and is used for authentication with your ILIAS installation)
- The password you enter is NOT stored on the device but is requested and processed directly by your institution’s ILIAS server or your institution’s authentication server when you access ILIAS for the first time.
- When using location-based services (e.g. learning locations) in the app, the GPS location is requested. No location data is stored in the app or transmitted to the server. In a use case of the learning location function, it can be transmitted to the server whether you have visited the corresponding learning location to permanently activate the corresponding content.
- In the case of a review in the Google app store (Android devices), the following data is transmitted to us Name and photo (if approved by you), text and rating, time of the review, app version used at the time of the review, and general information about the device used (incl. details of CPU, operating system, RAM, screen size)
- Google (Android devices) also transmit statistical data to us (number of installations and distribution across different Android versions), without the possibility of breaking this data down to individual persons.
- Google (Android devices) also transmits crash reports with excerpts from the log, including details of the device and software used, without being able to use this information to conclude individual users.
- Apple (iOS devices) sends us anonymous ratings listed by country and reviews with a timestamp. In the case of reviews, the user name specified on the device is also transmitted.
How do we collect this data?
- Some of the data described above is transmitted and/or stored automatically when you use the app
- For reviews in the app store, you enter the desired rating yourself
What is this data used for?
- To check your access authorization, you must log in to your ILIAS installation via the app. You will receive a token, which will be used to verify further requests with your device on the ILIAS server. This is necessary so that you do not have to log in again each time you access ILIAS, and also so that you can view the information on ILIAS that has been released for you.
- Statistical data from Google and Apple enable us to provide you with better software. For example, we learn which operating systems are being used and can then concentrate on newer versions if necessary, introduce new features, and dispense with support for old operating systems.
- Error reports with further information about the device enable us to improve the software.
- Reviews and ratings give us feedback and can also contribute to improving the software.
- Location data is necessary, for example, if you call up a learning location (not available on all ILIAS installations) that should only be displayed if you are in a certain location.
Who has access to this data?
- In the case of reviews, ratings, and error reports, the NATO DEEP eAcademy employees receive data that you have released. Some of this data can also be discussed with representatives of the various institutions that offer the IACOBUS app. Without a review and a bug report, the employees will not receive any information that you are using the app.
- User name and token are stored on your device and transmitted to your institution’s ILIAS installation when required (connection established).
- Location data is retrieved from your device and transmitted to your institution’s ILIAS installation if required (use of the Learning Locations function).
Where is this data stored?
- User name, token, and location data on your device and partly on the ILIAS server of your institution
- Ratings, reviews, and bug reports on the servers of Google (Android devices) or Apple (iOS devices)
You have the right to information, deletion, correction, and objection to the data stored about you. To do this, contact the institution that stores your data. If you have any questions, you can also contact our data protection officer:
