After two virtual editions, the 2022 ILIAS conference retook place as a face-to-face event in Bologna, the city with the oldest university in Europe. This year’s conference motto was: diverse – innovative – secure. 144 participants representing more than 85 organizations from 9 countries gathered together to discuss the current state and the future developments of the ILIAS Open Source E-Learning. The NATO DEEP eAcademy joined the rest of the ILIAS community and presented to the audience lessons learned from the ADL capacity-building program for the Iraqi Higher Military Education System (HMES) conducted by NATO Mission Iraq and NATO DEEP eAcademy. The participants were also familiarized, by Lyubo Bistrekov (NATO DEEP eAcademy Advisor), with the Iraqi eLearning Portal (IeLP) as a unique solution – LMS ILIAS fully operational in Arabic. His presentation was extremely well accepted and sparked a number of discussions connected to the RTL language support and possibilities of using Arabic in ILIAS LMS. Among other presentations of special importance for the NATO DEEP community were the briefings connected to 1) the Reporting & Analytics for the ILIAS LMS, 2) Content creation, and Content management (how Artificial Intelligence can help here and allow for bulk knowledge creation from legacy sources such as documents, presentations, videos capture such as lectures, and other video content directly into the repository and 3) Custom Dashboards in ILIAS. The latest developments and upcoming features in the new ILIAS 8 version were presented during the conference as well.
