A two-week online course on “Social Media & Virtual Reality in Education and Society” was completed in July for Ukrainian participants. The course aimed to strengthen digital literacy and practical skills while examining the growing role of emerging technologies in education and training, particularly in a military context. During the programme, participants explored the use of social media platforms, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and virtual worlds, with a focus on how these tools can create new opportunities for teaching, learning, communication and professional development.
The first week introduced participants to VR and AR technologies and their potential to enhance learning environments and practical training. The second week focused on social media and its applications in education and training, including the opportunities and challenges associated with different platforms. Through a combination of synchronous online meetings, asynchronous activities, practical exercises and expert feedback, participants developed their digital competences and applied SWOT analysis strategies to consider effective approaches for using social media and VR/AR in educational, informational and promotional content.
