A Subject Matter Expert (SME) from the NATO DEEP eAcademy recently contributed to the 14th annual NORDEFCO ADL Conference, held from April 20th to 23rd, 2026, at the Odense Congress Center in Denmark. Organized by the NORDEFCO ADL Forum of Experts, this international gathering serves as a vital platform for professionals dedicated to advancing distributed learning within a military context. The 2026 agenda addressed several critical pillars of modern defence education. Key discussions explored the impact of artificial intelligence and pioneering technologies on instruction, alongside the development of immersive training environments through virtual reality simulations. The conference also examined effective blended learning strategies for military curricula, evolving methodologies for instructional design, and the creation of interoperable digital ecosystems. Furthermore, participants addressed the leadership and organizational shifts required to successfully manage digital transformation in learning. These diverse topics were explored through a comprehensive schedule of plenary sessions and specialized parallel tracks. During the event, the NATO DEEP eAcademy SME led a session titled: “Empowering Partner Nations: Open-Source ADL Tools for Specialized Military and Medical English Training (NATO DEEP eAcademy programmes).” This interactive workshop highlighted the strategic use of open-source tools for training and assessment in specialized military and medical English. It demonstrated how the programmes utilize Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) technologies and digital skillsets to modernize the educational experience across NATO DEEP countries. This participation not only highlights innovative training solutions but also strengthens mutual cooperation with NORDEFCO experts, fostering a shared commitment to using emerging technologies to enhance military education and training.
