NATO DEEP eAcademy AI Bootcamp #1 – AI in Education and Training

Between 16 and 20 March 2026, an online Bootcamp on the use of artificial intelligence in education was conducted. The initiative focused on practical applications of AI tools and their potential to support teaching, content development, and training processes.

The programme began with an organizational session, during which participants were introduced to the structure of the Bootcamp and completed the necessary technical setup. In the following days, sessions covered key topics including the use of AI tools and AI agents, preparation of educational materials, lesson design, and the development of simple training scenarios.

Participants worked with widely accessible tools such as Gemini, NotebookLM, ChatGPT, Heygen, and Replit, with a strong emphasis on solutions that do not require advanced IT infrastructure. The sessions combined short theoretical inputs with hands-on exercises, allowing participants to immediately apply acquired knowledge in practice.

A high level of engagement was observed throughout the Bootcamp. Participants actively contributed to discussions and completed practical tasks, including the development of simple applications within a limited timeframe. Several solutions were tested in English, reflecting both the international dimension of the training and the usability of the tools in a broader context.

The Bootcamp also provided space to discuss key challenges related to the use of AI in education, particularly in more demanding environments such as military training. These included issues related to data security, verification of AI-generated content, alignment with institutional requirements, and the need to further develop instructors’ competencies in the use of AI.

Overall, the Bootcamp confirmed the effectiveness of short, intensive, practice-oriented training formats in building initial AI competencies. It also demonstrated strong interest among participants in further developing their skills and applying AI solutions in their professional contexts.
